Nick's Picks March 2017

March 2017

Sort by...usefulness!

All of us at TeachingBooks.net strive to enrich your connection to books—and this month we added new tools that let you hone in on the right books for you.

When you search for a title, subject, genre, curricular area, or cultural area, or when you review a booklist or award, you can now sort your findings in ways that are useful to your needs.

For example, search nonfiction, and sort by Year Published. Or search a genre or topic you are teaching (for example, poetry biographies), and sort by Lexile® levels. You can even experience these new sorting tools in the Amelia Bloomer feminist booklist noted below.

Enjoy, and keep letting us know how we can help you bring to life the books you are reading.

Meet-the-Author Book Reading: Stacey Lee on the San Francisco earthquake

Recent winner of the Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature Outrun the Moon (Penguin Random House 2016) tells a story not often heard about the people who benefited from the devastating 1906 San Francisco earthquake.

In this Meet-the-Author Book Reading, author Stacey Lee discusses her choice to write her historical fiction book from the point of view of a 15-year-old Chinese girl—someone who was considered to reside in the lowest segment of society at that time.

Listen to Stacey Lee introduce the backstory behind her young adult novel.
