In this month's guest blog post, see the variety of objects (both tangible and electronic) that have inspired Ms. Williams-Garcia to create the Gaither Sisters trilogy, including One Crazy Summer (2010), P.S. Be Eleven (2013), and Gone Crazy in Alabama (2015, all HarperCollins).

Thanks to a tip from a family member, young adult author Ruta Sepetys was inspired to learn about a maritime tragedy that took the lives of an estimated 9,000 people towards the end of WWII. Her research laid the foundation for her historical fiction novel Salt to the Sea (Philomel Books 2016).

Listen to Ruta Sepetys introduce the backstory behind her book.
