Embedding TeachingBooks

For more than 18 years, I've been dreaming about every reader learning directly from the author the moment they are reading a book. I founded on this premise and feel tremendous pride that more than 55 million pages have been experienced on our website by students, teachers, librarians, families, and more!

The biggest challenge remains informing users that they have this opportunity to enrich their connection to books they are reading. To help, we've integrated easy access to our service from library catalogs, learning management systems, and single sign-on tools — and created methods to share resources via email, calendars, text, QR code flyers, and more.

This year we added new points of access that can be embedded into your school websites and blogs — wherever your patrons look for digital resources.

Check them out and let me know if they help your community unearth new ways to connect to your favorite books and authors. Thanks.

Meet-the-Author Book Reading: Spinning Fantasy from Real Life

Cressida Cowell took real experiences from her childhood summers spent on a tiny island imaging when Vikings lived there, and turned them into the island of Berk and the adventures of Hiccup in How to Train Your Dragon (Little, Brown, 2013).

Listen to Cressida Cowell talk about the inspiration behind How to Train Your Dragon.

Behind the Books: TeachingBooks Looks Back

Since January 2009, more than 110 extraordinary authors and illustrators have written exclusive blog posts for TeachingBooks that reveal the challenges and joys of their professional crafts. This month we look back on a few guest posts from 2010 (Laurie Halse Anderson, Sharon Draper, Avi, and Nic Bishop) — and enjoy these eloquently written reminders that the power of stories expands our experiences.
