Book Descriptions
for Grannie Jus' Come! by Ana Sisnett and Karen Lusebrink
From Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC)
A young Black child living in Paraíso, Panama, shares the excitement she feels when her grandmother arrives on the bus to visit her family. Grannie's shoes, dress, eyeglasses, blue straw hat, soft skin, white hair, and all the small things she carries in her purse are treasured by the little girl, simply because they belong to her beloved grandmother. The story is written in a lilting Caribbean-English dialect that was spoken in the author's home when she was growing up in Paraíso. (Ages 3-7)
