Policies

Cookies Policy

TeachingBooks.net uses "cookies" for two purposes. First, to allow users to access the site without having to sign in each time. Second, to help maintain smooth operations for browsing the site. Cookies are never used to track personal information about our subscribers without consent.

You will not be able to access the site with your cookies disabled. If you're trying to sign in, yet the TeachingBooks website doesn't acknowledge that you're signed in, nor tell you why your access was denied, this most likely means that your computer is not accepting cookies. In your Internet browser software, go to "Edit > Preferences" and confirm that your system is accepting cookies.

When TeachingBooks asks on the Sign In page if you want the computer to remember your user name and password, this is addressed to people who are the only TeachingBooks subscribers for a given computer. If multiple subscribers to TeachingBooks.net use the same computer, make sure that this box is not checked. If it is, different users cannot be distinguished and the computer won't know which subscriber is signed in. This action violates the Subscriber Agreement. You can change your setting for the "Remember user name and password" checkbox anytime by accessing it through Change Your Profile.

If you sign on and see someone else's name in upper right of the screen, click on the "Sign Off" link found next to it. This signs off the previous user and activates a "Sign In" box for you.

Linking Policy

TeachingBooks.net contains links to thousands of relevant websites and resources. These remote sites are operated by third parties and not by TeachingBooks.net. Such sites are not under the control of TeachingBooks and TeachingBooks is not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or any information, content, products or services accessible from such sites.

To most clearly understand our linking policy, see Section 3.1 of this website's Subscriber Agreement. It reads, "TeachingBooks.net contains links to other related World Wide Web Internet sites and resources. These remote sites are operated by third parties and not by TeachingBooks.net. TeachingBooks.net provides these links to you solely as a convenience, and the inclusion of any link does not imply endorsement by TeachingBooks.net of the remote site or its Affiliates, or any materials contained within. Such sites are not under the control of TeachingBooks.net, and TeachingBooks.net is not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or any information, content, products or services accessible from such sites. You should direct any concerns regarding any external link to the site administrator or Webmaster of such site."

TeachingBooks does test the validity of our links on a regular basis. We have built into our site infrastructure special link checkers and we examine each link on a scheduled basis to help ensure that we are connecting you to the material that you expect. If you find links that don't work or that do not contain the content that was expected, you can inform us either by using the Contact Us form or email us directly at info@teachingbooks.net.

Privacy Policy

(Updated last on
September 28, 2009.)

TeachingBooks.net is committed to maintaining the privacy of personal information about our subscribers. This Privacy Policy describes how we treat personal information that you provide when visiting TeachingBooks.net.

General

1. TeachingBooks.net will not sell, rent, swap, or otherwise disclose to any third party any information provided during your subscription registration. In addition, we do not include on our site any functionality that allows third parties to perform "reverse searches" to identify individuals from e-mail addresses.

2. TeachingBooks.net asks you to complete the registration process when you first visit the site so we can most efficiently communicate with you in the future. This personally identifiable information may include, but is not limited to, your name, email address, zip code, and facts about your profession and interests in children's books. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. See Section 5 of this Privacy Policy for more about our handling of personal information from children under 13.

We may use your e-mail address to communicate with you. For example, we may want to inform you about content relevant to your interests, about new features and material on our site, to request your opinion on matters concerning the site, and to make you aware of highlights in our services. You can opt out of receiving these communications by visiting the Receive "Eye-on-the-Web" Customized Emails section of this site and clicking "No" to the question, "receive our 'Eye-on-the-Web' content Digests." Of course, if you change your mind, you can always reverse your option and return your name to any list.

3. TeachingBooks.net reserves the right to send subscribers maintenance e-mails, such as, but not exclusively including, service confirmation, renewal/expire notice, and infrequent service alert messages, regardless of whether you have opted-in or opted-out of the "Receive 'Eye-on-the-Web' Customized Emails" list status. The purpose of these maintenance email messages are to inform subscribers of specific changes that may impact their ability to use this site.

4. TeachingBooks.net automatically tracks site usage information to create site evaluation data such as which pages are most popular. Site usage information that is collected helps us evaluate how our visitors and subscribers use and navigate TeachingBooks.net on an aggregate basis, including the number and frequency of visitors and subscribers to each web page, and the length of their visits.

4a. We may use information that we collect in the following ways:

  1. for the purposes for which you specifically provided the information including, but not limited to, enabling us to process, validate and verify subscriptions;
  2. to cross reference the material in our database with your interests in order to send you customized announcements of content that is explicitly relevant to your interests;
  3. to send you email notifications about services, or to otherwise contact you;
  4. to enhance existing features or develop new features, products or services;
  5. to provide third parties with aggregate, not-user-specific, information about our usage patterns; and
  6. in any other ways that are in compliance with this policy as it may be amended from time to time.

Children Under 13

5. If you are a person under the age of 13, we do not want to receive any personal information about you—including information like your name, address or email address. TeachingBooks.net does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. In the event that we learn that we have collected any personal information from a child under the age of 13 without verification of parental consent, we will delete that information from our database as quickly as reasonably possible.

To easily enable children to enjoy TeachingBooks' author programs, book readings and other primary source material about authors, we offer access to our materials that do not require email as part of authentication.

Security

6. Whenever TeachingBooks.net handles information that you enter on our site, regardless of where this occurs, we take steps to ensure that your information is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we strive to protect your personal information, TeachingBooks.net cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us.

7. TeachingBooks.net does not control the privacy policies of our business partners, sponsors or other sites to which we provide hyperlinks.

Cookies

8. TeachingBooks.net uses "cookies" to identify return visitors. A "cookie" is a small file that we save on your computer's hard drive. It contains no personal information, like your name or e-mail address, but "remembers" that your computer has visited this site before. So if you leave the site and then return, cookies will be able to detect what questions you have already answered so that you do not have to start all over again. This technology allows you to connect directly to our site (bypassing Sign In), saves your password so you don't have to re-enter it each time you visit our site, and in the future, may be used to personalize your TeachingBooks.net experience.

8a: You may remove all TeachingBooks.net cookies by going to: http://www.teachingbooks.net/clearcookies

Thus, if at any time TeachingBooks.net requires a fee for any portions of the Service that are then currently free to you, TeachingBooks.net will give you advance notice of such fee and the opportunity to decline to pay such fee (and cancel your access) before such fee is charged. All fees, if any, can be easily accessed from the FAQs section of the Service and other appropriate locations on the Service. You shall pay all fees and charges incurred through your account at the rates in effect for the billing period in which such fees and charges are incurred, including, but not limited to charges for any products or services offered for sale through the Service by TeachingBooks.net or by any other vendor or service provider. All fees and charges shall be billed to and paid for by you. You shall pay all applicable taxes relating to use of the Service through your account. If you do not pay the fee for access to fee-only areas of the Service, you will not have access to such areas.
