World Kindness Day - November 13th

World Kindness Day is observed internationally each year to remind and encourage people around the world to share kindness with others, lend a helping hand, and build compassion for one another. Here are a few resources you can share with your students to think more about the value of being kind.

• Begin the day by watching the video book trailer and video book reading for Kindness is a Kite String: The Uplifting Power of Empathy. Then ask your students: how can you lift others with kindness? Encourage students to strive to do at least one act of kindness today.

• Find titles and resources on the themes of kindness and peace on these lists:
  

  • Unity. Kindness. Peace.
  • Peaceful Engagement: 25 Books for PreK-3 on Kindness, Empathy and Understanding

• Guide students through this “World I want to Live in” craft activity, after watching the complete video reading of The Kindest Red together. Find talking points and extension ideas in these teaching notes.
  

• Hear author Apryl Stott speak to how challenging sharing kindness can be in this Meet-the-Author Recording for Share Some Kindness, Bring Some Light. Encourage students to think about a time when being kind seemed difficult, and discuss together.

• Build a “Mural of Kindness” and review the 10 Acts of Kindness checklist in this activity kit after watching the complete video reading of Finding Kindness by Deborah Underwood and Irene Chan.

• Share this complete video reading in American Sign Language and English of When We Are Kind and find questions to reflect about kindness in this teacher resource.
