Nick's Picks November 2018

November 2018 Edition

Connecting to the Books We Read

TeachingBooks strives to deepen connections to the very books and authors each of us is reading. One new example is we've recently aligned our collection of digital resources to the Junior Library Guild selections — so that you can have author interviews, book trailers, vocabulary lists, discussion questions, and more for these books that are already in your library.

Whether you subscribe to this service or not, have fun browsing through these few thousand awesome titles, and using "Narrow Your Results" on the left to select different JLG categories so you can learn more about these books and authors.

If you ever want to align any set of books with our resources, please do so with our Custom Reading List tools. And ask if we can ever be of assistance. It is always our pleasure.

Thanks!

Behind the Books: Reflecting the Reader

Twenty years ago, Sharon G. Flake’s book The Skin I’m In was first published. In this new blog post, she talks about what inspired this memorable book: wanting to give her daughter stories with powerful dark-skinned heroines who looked like her.

Meet-the-Author Book Reading in English and Cree

As we celebrate Native American Heritage Month with reflections on the rich ancestry and history of indigenous peoples, share this Meet-the-Author reading in both English and Cree of Tomson Highway’s award winning book, Caribou Song / Ateek Oonagamoon (Fifth House Publishing 2013).
