Adam Gidwitz: Hi, my name is Adam Gidwitz. I'm the author of The Unicorn Rescue Society series. I'm supposed to talk to you about my books right now, but I'm not going to talk to you about my books. I'm going to tell you about a society, a real society, a really secret society. It is called The Unicorn Rescue Society. The Unicorn Rescue Society is a secret organization that spans the whole globe, members in countries all over the world. Every member's job is to keep one mythical creature safe from danger.

There are members who protect Sasquatch, Bigfoot. There are members who protect Chupacabras. There are members who protect the Loch Ness Monster and griffins and other crazy creatures you probably never heard of, like the Pooka. I'm not going to talk to you about my books because, as a member of The Unicorn Rescue Society, I'm talking to you on a recruiting mission. You see, we need new members. We need people all over the country, all over the world, who will find mythical creatures and take care of them.

I hope maybe one of you listening to this right now will join us, maybe two of you, maybe four of you. You should read the books. That way, you have some of the history of the Society. You meet some of the other members through the books.

Before you do that though, you may want to hear a little bit more. I've got with me a letter from the founder of The Unicorn Rescue Society. His name is Professor Mito Fauna. He has written a letter to give you some information about the Society. I will read that to you right now.

Unicorns are real. At least I think they are. Dragons are definitely real, I have seen them. Chupacabras exist also and Sasquatch and the mermaids, though they are not what you think. Back to unicorns. When I, Professor Mito Fauna, was a young man, I lived in the foothills of Peru. One day, there were rumors in my town of a unicorn in danger far up in the mountains. At that instant, I founded The Unicorn Rescue Society, I was the only member, and set off to save the unicorn. When I finally located it though, I saw it was not a unicorn but rather a Carcacha, the legendary two-headed llama of the Andes. I was very slightly disappointed. I rescued it anyway, of course.

Now, many years later, there are members of The Unicorn Rescue Society all around the world. We are sworn to protect all the creatures of myth and legend, including unicorns if ever we find them, which I'm sure we will. Our enemies are powerful and ruthless. We are in desperate need of help, help from someone brave and kind and curious and brave. Yes, I said brave twice. It is important. Will you help us? Will you risk your very life to protect the world's mythical creatures? Will you join The Unicorn Rescue Society? I hope so. The creatures need you. Defende Fabulosa, Protege Mythica.

Professor Mito Fauna.
