David LaRochelle: Hello. My name is David LaRochelle, and I'm the author of See the Cat: Three Stories About a Dog, published by Candlewick Press, and illustrated by Mike Wohnoutka. Lots of times the author and the illustrator of a book don't even know each other. But Mike Wohnoutka is one of my best friends. And I'm very happy to have such a good friend of mine drawing the pictures for my stories.
When I was young, I loved reading funny books. I loved reading stories by Beverly Cleary. I loved reading collections of Peanuts comic strips with Charlie Brown and Snoopy. When I wrote See the Cat, I wanted to write a funny book. One that would hopefully make kids laugh, like the books I enjoyed when I was young. I thought it would be funny if the words in the story said one thing, but the pictures in the book showed something completely different. And that is what is happening in the part of the story that I would like to read to you now.
I also tried to come up with a funny name for a cat. At first, I tried the names, Tootsie and Foofoo, but if you listen, you'll hear the name that I eventually chose.
