Paula Yoo: Hello, my name is Paula Yoo. My last name is spelled Y-O-O, but it's pronounced like the word spelled Y-O-U, you. When I was growing up, everyone liked to say, "Hey, You," to me. It was pretty funny.

My parents emigrated from South Korea to the United States in the 1960's. My last name, Yoo, is of Korean origin. My parents gave me the first name of Paula because they thought it was the closest sounding American name to the Korean first name of Bora, but my parents pronounced Paula like Pola, so to them it sounded like Bora. Later, they realized the American pronunciation of my American first name is Paula. So, my official name is Paula Yoo, but my unofficial Korean first name is Bora. In Korea, the last name comes first, so although my American name is Paula Yoo, my Korean name would be Yoo Bora.
