Bryan Collier: Hi, my name is Bryan Collier. I'm the illustrator of the book "Martin's Big Words," written by Doreen Rappaport.

It's about the life of Dr. Martin Luther King from a little boy all the way to his death.

It's done in watercolor and collage. An idea that I pushed in this text is stained glass windows. It started in the very beginning when you first open up the book, and the stained glass windows act as a metaphor for Dr. King's message. It's about all these different pieces of glass and colors put together to make something whole.

Also it's about looking in and looking out throughout society. Now the spread that we're focusing on is Dr. King in the pulpit has dramatic lighting on him. And these stained glass windows are like beams of color of light, very penetrating throughout the darkness.

The stained glass windows run throughout the whole book just because of that metaphor of Dr. King bringing something together to make something whole.
