Mark Karlins: Hi, my name is Mark Karlins. It's actually a fairly simple name to pronounce. The K is a little bit like a C and it sounds like a car that you would drive. One interesting thing about my first name is that I was named after my grandfather who actually died a year before I was born. I was the first child born after he died, so I've inherited his name and a little bit of his story. Although I never met him, I know a lot about him because my mother, his daughter, would tell me a lot of stories about him, and I feel that I know him very, very closely. Something else about my name, my last name, Karlins, was originally Karlinski. It's a name from Eastern Europe and my father, before I was born, to become more Americanized, changed his name from Karlinski to Karlins.
