Donna Galanti: Hello, my name is Donna Galanti. I actually don't really know how my last name should be pronounced. Some people say GULL-ANT-EE, and some people say GULL-AUNT-EE. I like GULL-AUNT-EE because it sounds like the word Gallant, which means acting brave and heroic. The name Donna means lady in Italian, and Galanti, my husband's family name, is a name of Italian descent. Donna also means world ruler from English and Scottish origins, which is where my background is from.
Growing up, I could never decide if I wanted to be a lady or a world ruler. So I figured I could be both: a lady world ruler, especially a brave and heroic one. As a child I never really liked my first name Donna, because I thought it was boring. I always wanted a fun nickname, but no one can make a fun nickname from Donna except for D, which is what many of my friends call me. My parents, who adopted me, are Donald and Suneil, and they named me Donna Suzanne from their names. Since most of my relatives come from Kentucky, whenever we visit them, they call me Donna Sue with a slow Southern drawl. I like that.
